Serena Williams wins once more at the US Open to reach the third round.
Anett Kontaveit, the No. 2 seed, was eliminated by Williams in the second round of the U.S. Open 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-2,
guaranteeing that she will play at least one more singles match in what she has hinted will be the final tournament of her brilliant career.
"There's still a little left in me," Williams said with a smile during her on-court interview.
"This is what I do best," she added. "I love a challenge and I'm rising to the challenge."
After winning in straight sets against Danka Kovinic, who was ranked 80th, on Monday, she defeated Kontaveit to record her 23rd triumph in her previous 25 games against a No. 1 or No. 2 ranked opponent.
The six-time Flushing Meadows winner will compete on Wednesday for a place in the fourth round.
