Serena Williams Wins First-Round Match Over Danka Kovinic at US Open
On Monday night, the 23-time major champion won over Danka Kovinic 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of the US Open.
"You know, I always just got to do the best that I can," Williams said to the crowd after the match.
"I feel so comfortable on this court, in front of everyone here.
On Monday night, a sold-out crowd of about 24,000 people gathered here, including former President Bill Clinton, Spike Lee, Lindsey Vonn, Bella Hadid, Rebel Wilson, and others.
"The response was quite positive," Williams told reporters. "It was loud, and I felt it in my chest."
It was Williams' 102nd victory at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the most by any player since the stadium's inception in 1997.
