One-in-1,000-year flood damages the Dallas area; vehicles float on flooded highways.

Flash floods occurred in the Dallas-Fort Worth area overnight into Monday, necessitating rescue operations due to damaged highways.

Dallas and the surrounding area are still seeing heavy rain; some local rain gauges have now registered more over 10 inches of precipitation.

At Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, a record 3.01 inches of rain fell in in one hour.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth issued a warning that "life-threatening flash flooding" 

extending till noon its flash flood warning for Dallas County and the surrounding area.

It advised locals to leave promptly for higher ground and advised them not to travel on flooded roadways due to the "great risk" of harm from the floods.
