Jimmy Garoppolo, 49ers finalizing restructured contract to keep QB in San Francisco
Jimmy Garoppolo's time in San Francisco is not finished, as he will remain with the 49ers as an experienced backup to Trey Lance.
According to NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, the 49ers and Garoppolo are nearing an agreement that will make him the highest-paid backup quarterback in the NFL.
According to Rapoport and Garafolo, Garoppolo's new contract is worth $6.5 million with incentives that may boost it to near to $16 million.
The revised agreement would also reduce Garoppolo's 2022 salary-cap figure from $26.95 million to about $8.5 million.
According to NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero, Garoppolo's deal also includes a no-trade clause and a no-franchise tag condition.
As a result, the quarterback has complete control over his future and will be a free agent following this season.
