The only significant event on the schedule that offers lighter balls for women is the New York Grand Slam.

This rule has been criticised by Swiatek and "many other players" on the WTA Tour, who want it to be changed.

The 20-year old criticised the US Open's policy and acknowledged that lighter balls make players more prone to mistakes on the court during a press conference at the Cincinnati Open.

"We definitely make more mistakes [with these balls]. I don't understand why they are different from men's ones, so I don't think that's particularly pleasant to observe visually"

"Fifteen years ago, they switched to women's balls because the balls were heavier and probably caused some elbow injuries in women."
