For the first time this year, Iga Swiatek is seeded first at the US Open. and is attempting to win her first Grand Slam championship anywhere other than Roland Garros' red clay.
Swiatek shared a snapshot of herself with Williams on her social media pages on Sunday: Swiatek tweeted, "This is the highlight of my day."
"Congratulations @serenawilliams on your incredible journey and remarkable career." I admire everything you've done for our sport."
"I've been watching her my whole life," Swiatek, a 21-year-old Polish star, said of 40-year-old Williams.
"She was almost everywhere since she constantly won and was in the semifinals or finals."
